FMP Yr1: Production Video Diary, Editing, & Cast Choices
FMP PRODUCTION VIDEO DIARY
Day One
Day one of filming went very well. We where not able to film outside through the front doors for security reasons so we had to change those scenes from outside to inside, it wasn't hard and we where able to keep the flow going. The actors where very professional and when we asked them how they thought the scene would play out they gave us some very good suggestions that we never would have thought of.
Day Two
We had originally planned to film at a bus stop outside of Ian Ramsey Secondary School but Ofsted came into college the week we where meant to film. So instead of changing the day of filming we changed the location to inside the college building. We grabbed the actors from Blood Brothers Rehearsals and went straight to work. We film the two scenes and finished the shoot in less than 45 minuets. Once we finished Casey took the footage and finished the edit at home!

The Editing Process
Casey edited our film on After Effects over 4 days, we showed Kane and the rest of the course the film on the big screen and they gave us critiques. We took the notes and Casey fixed the issues. They where mainly audio and colour correction difficulties.
Some Other Feedback:
Throughout the editing process we let year ones and twos watch the film to get there opinions on how it was looking so far. Casey had an idea of what the film was going to look like so most of the tips we got where technical. They included:
- sound quality
- exposure levels
- consistent colour grading
- clean cuts
I also showed my sister, mum and dad as they are my biggest critics and they said:
'It's really good, interesting and I found the story emotional.' - Mum
'I think it will resonate well with people from a church community and the LGBTQ community, I enjoyed watching it' - Eva (my sister)
'So cool, I definitely found your characters really interesting and it was very insightful' - Dad
This feedback was really encouraging and made me feel like all the effort we have put in was worth it.
Cast Choices
When we where thinking of a cast for Sapphic we where open to any of the actors who where interested. I sent the casting call out to the actors on Tuesday the 3rd of May and we asked for self tapes to be sent to Casey by the end of the weekend.
Over the next three days we had received self tapes from a range of actors from year 1 and 2. Here are the self tapes from the actors that we chose to be in our film -
Kadie:
Sienna:
Magan:
Charley:
Emily:
Kalem:
The Final Cast List:
@ Jenny - Kadie Bradley
@ Natalie - Sienna Pounder (Originally this character was going to be male but because we wanted Sienna to be in our film with switched it)
@ Sammie - Magan English
@ Nora - Charley Hill
@ Elizabeth - Emily Peaurt
@ Preacher Tom - Kalem Stockill
Once we had chosen the cast we made a group chat on teams and sent them the final script and costume ideas and we worked with them to negotiate the film schedule that would work with their blood brothers rehearsals.
I am so happy with the cast, all the actors are so professional and amazing at getting into character. During filming they performed brilliantly and really gave the story life.
