FMP Yr1: Pitch and Proposal

Pitch

Casey and I spent time over the Easter break creating the PowerPoint for our final film pitch. While starting the pitch we were not totally set on what the story would be, we just knew it had to do with a girl discovering who she was in the world while being part of the LGBTQ community.

To get some ideas we looked at different films and media that fit the same genre that we wanted to make our film into. We looked:

• She-ra and The Princesses of Power
• Owl House
• Heartstopper
• The Half of It
• Happiest Season
• The Last of Us
• Thirteen
• The Miseducation of Cameron Post

These films and story based video games all have similar themes of people being treated differently because they are a part of the LGBTQ community. In our film we want to so the same - challenge and fight modern day homophobia.

Once we had the idea of a lesbian living in a religious community we got to work on the rest of the pitch:

Proposal

The proposal is a little version of the PowerPoint with more detail on the characters and story. It is supposed to pursued whoever you are pitching to that it is a good idea to make your film.

How Did it Go?

I thought that the pitch went ok, we confidently went out to the front and presented the PowerPoint to Kelly and Kane. Kelly gave us feedback on our story and asked some needed questions. 

Kelly's response: The story is much better than the first versions, are you sure that you want to go against the church so strongly?

Our response: We know that the church of England supports the LGBTQ community so we are not worried and we want to make a film that will surprise and cause emotion for the audience, and hopefully this current story will do just that.

Moving forward I would make the pitch less wordy, I would put more pictures in so that we could clearly put across the vibe we are going for. After we changed the pitch again we removed most of the images so I would put them back in and add even more.
