Soundscapes: The Final Piece & Evaluation
An Air Show Soundscape
Evaluation:
I found this project very exciting because I find sound-design and soundtracks in film so interesting. When planning this soundscape this was my first of three ideas, I decided to go with this one because it has an interesting narrative and had some challenging aspects. The other two ideas where kinda boring and not to hard to create so I planned out the different sounds I would need for this audio task.
I decided it would be easiest to record the sounds on my phone, this meant others could use the cameras for the various filming that was going on during that week. I was able to visit my grandparent's house in Seaburn, so that meant I could record all the beach sounds like waves on the sand, waves on the pebbly beach and seagulls. The rest of the sounds I recorded during dog walks and travelling to and from college. The only sound I didn't record that week was the sound of the Red Arrows flying and the commentary that went along with it. Luckily, my dad found a video clip he filmed from a few years ago when we went to the Sunderland Air Show which included sounds of the jets and commentary. So I took the audio from that video and it blended in nicely with the other audio.
The editing process went very smoothly, the longest part of the whole process was downloading all the audio clips from OneDrive. Once that was complete I worked on each of the clips together to make sure nothing overpowered the soundscape overall. After some advice from Kane it was all sorted and I uploaded the soundscape to Youtube.
Overall, I though that this project went very well and I really enjoyed the idea generating process and recording sessions. I am very pleased with the final product!
