Film Making 102: Two Person Conversation with Flashbacks

Two Person Conversation w/ Flashback

A conversation between 2 characters that includes a reference to an event that took place before the conversation and flashes back to it to give more information.

The 3 most common reasons filmmakers use two person conversations in their films is to show characters relationships, highlight important plot points and it moves the narrative forward.

The reason why they include a flashback is because it is more visually interesting while giving the plot context and information. It follows the rule: SHOW, DON'T TELL. Its way more interesting to watch something happen than hear someone describe a situation if it fits with the genre and tone of their film.

An example of a two person conversation w/ flashbacks:

A Picnic with Madoc

Unfortunately due to weather issues we had to change the location of this video so that we could film inside, so we filmed in a café.

Evaluation:

This Two-person conversation tells a clear story with a nice flashback. My role in this task was script writer and director. I have improved my scriptwriting skills and directing. The actors where great and easy to work with and we got the task done quickly and easily.
If I could do this again I would improve the difference in the present and the flashback because it is not clear even though they are different times.
