Film Making 102: Photo Series
The Battle of the Vending Machine
A photo series is a collection of pictures that tell a story:
This photo series shows a person going to get a snack from a vending machine but it doesn't work. They begin to lash out but luckily two friends are there to stop, calm and help their friend out and give them the snack they where after.
The Process:
We wanted to tell a simple story of someone struggling to get a snack out of the vending machine. We came up with a story and Casey drew a story board of what pictures we where going to take. Then we went down to the vending machine; me, Martin, and Josh all posed for the pictures while Casey photographed us. We took the photos and I edited them together in Premier Pro, to make it more dramatic I added music from The War of the Worlds and so other funny sound effects.
The skills I have developed making this photo series; how to tell a short narrative with limited story telling tools and how to fill short frames with useful information for the audience.
My role in this task was co-director with Casey and I was also a subject in the photo series.
Evaluation:
I thought we conveyed the story well, however we could of had more information in each shot so that the audience was totally clear what was happening, then the music would not be needed as much. The music really sways the whole story, it could have gone a complete different direction just by the vibe of the soundtrack.
